This position is responsible for the efficient and effective pre-registration of scheduled appointments. Confirms patient appointments per established protocols. Secures patient demographics information for charting, billing and record keeping purposes. Ensures that billing information is obtained in order to pre-register patients. Screens and evaluates processes necessary to determine a patient's eligibility for third party coverage. Additionally, is an expert in UHC's Sliding Fee and has knowledge of UHC's covered services, billing, and reimbursement procedures. Representative must be able to identify any schedule conflicts and take appropriate action to ensure smooth patient flows and the highest level of resource utilization possible. The Pre-Registration Manager is an exempt position and reports to the Director of Revenue Cycle. The Pre-Registration Manager is responsible for coordinating, implementing and supervising Pre-Registration Specialist. The Pre-Registration department is responsible for efficiently and accurately establish who is responsible to pay for the services rendered to each patient who has an appointment scheduled. The department is responsible for attaching the correct health plan based on eligibility response and appointment specialty. The Pre-Registering department is accountable for ensuring that all health plans that require a co-payment be collected and that the cop-payment field be set with the correct co-payment amount for that appointment. Additionally, the department ensures thatfor all appointments covered through the Sliding Scale Discount Program, the Sliding Scale Discount Program be active in the patients account and application current and on file. The Pre-Registration Manager is knowledgeable and understands department operations, policies and procedures to assure corporate compliance, quality and efficient services. This position requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the department's performance expectations.

A UHC Optometry Assistant (OA) shows genuine warmth with patients and has the ability to make them feel comfortable in the health center while providing effective and technically competent ophthalmic assistance to both patients and UHC optometrists. The OA assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an optometrist. Primary tasks are to interview patients and obtain chief compliant, ocular and medical histories, perform auto refraction, automated tonometry, lensometry, and ancillary ocular tests as directed by the Optometrist such as color vision tests (Ishiara or Farnsworth), depth perception, visual fields and retinal photos. The optometry OA must also document all findings in the ophthalmic template in the EHR. The OA is also responsible for helping assist patients in the optical area with the fitting, ordering and dispensing of eyeglasses or contact lenses as directed by the Optometrist. The OA will maintain optical boards by making sure that glasses are restocked and accounted for in the electronic program. The OA provides or facilitates the provision of information needed by both patients and clinicians. Furthermore, they ensure a smooth and well-connected patient flow with the Optometrist as well as in the optical department registering patients. The OA must ensure complete and accurate information of all patient encounters and charge information.  The OA must provide complete, accurate, and timely posting of all patient encounter data, procedures, diagnosis, demographics, and payment collection data.  Lastly, the OA must audit and verify information from the data entry document with existing information in the patient database.

The Enrollment and Eligibility Specialist plays an important role in helping children and families enroll in the Medi-Cal Program.
