Overview

Consideration of internal candidates for this Dental Supervisor position will be prioritized.

 

The Dental Supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight of all UHC Dental support staff at all sites as well as day-to-day operations (i.e., scheduling errors, no show rate, patient flow, patient concerns, employee relation issues etc.). Consistently conducts operations and decision-making based on UHC policies and procedures. Primary to the Dental Supervisor's responsibilities are ensuring effective and efficient delivery of dental services in all UHC dental departments without sacrificing patient satisfaction. This exempt position reports directly to the Health Center Manager.

 

Responsibilities

Summary of Responsibilities:

 

This position will oversee the Dental Assistants and Dental Receptionists.

This position will:

  • Provide leadership and support for the UHC dental operations at assigned health centers.
  • Proactively manages provider appointment schedules to ensure provider templates are correctly applied and ensures provider appointments are scheduled appropriately.
  • Provide appropriate coaching, training, counseling and staff development.
  • Assist with recruitment and hiring for dental assistant and dental receptionist positions.
  • Require that DA/RDA functions be performed and provide coverage as necessary for DA/RDA staff.
  • Coordinates dental staffing personnel as needed to ensure adequate coverage to provide quality care.
  • Performs and coordinates site audits/visits between front and back office.
  • Ensures data entry corrections/completion is resolved in a timely manner.

PERFORMANCE AREA 1:

  • Reviews provider schedules and productivity measures and guides the dental team.
  • Consistently provides leadership and support for the site dental operations
  • Will work closely with the dentist and dental staff to ensure smooth patient flow and the effective delivery of services.
  • Oversees ordering of dental department supplies and maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Will assist and coordinate performance evaluations and disciplinary action of assigned dental staff
  • Performs DA/RDA functions and coverage for DA/ RDA staff as necessary.

PERFORMANCE AREA 2:

  • Attends and actively participates in all meetings (e.g., department meetings, program meetings, employee staff meetings) and other activities as required or assigned.
  • Supports the overall needs of the health center by working flexible or extended hours when necessary.
  • Demonstrates awareness of, and compliance with, organizational mission and objective of UHC to provide health care access and support services for all members of the community.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by Health Center Manager.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either verbally or in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for information regarding patients and other team members; abides by UHC Rules of Confidentiality and general HIPAA regulations regarding privacy.
  • Displays a positive, professional and respectful demeanor at all times toward employees, peers, professional contacts, and patients served, maintaining a professional appearance and positive image for the health centers.
  • Contributes to the team by promoting positive staff interaction, maintains open communication with other programs/departments.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Possess a valid RDA California License or DA Certificate. 
  • Completed training program in Dental Assisting from Accredited College is required.
  • Possess a valid Lifesaving Certification 
  • Possess a valid Driver's License

 

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of supervisory or management experience in a dental setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of dental insurances and billing preferred
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community health centers mission and role.

SKILLS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
  • Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients and providers of differing backgrounds; team player
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Strong computer skills; knowledge of computerized dental records systems
  • Familiar with adult learning and general training techniques
  • Positive professional insight
  • Flexibility and dependability
  • Demonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgment
  • Effective leadership/supervisory skills
  • Modern office practices and procedures including email
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and push up to 50 pounds (on wheels).
  • Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to patients and staff.
  • Must be able to read memos, computer screens, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
  • Must have high manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, twist/turn.

 

The pay range for this Exempt position starts at $73,696.94 a year. Our salaries are dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.
