Under the direction of the Breastfeeding Education Coordinator. The Regional Breastfeeding Liaison (RBL) conducts the outreach and networking efforts in the community as a whole (e.g., doctors, CPSP, hospitals, employers, etc.) in order to promote breastfeeding. Utilizes effective marketing strategies to promote the Central Valley WIC Programs' breastfeeding education and support services, through effective communication that includes the use of verbal skills and the development and distributing of various WIC breastfeeding education and outreach materials for public view as well as for general outreach activities. Generates written correspondence, calendar events, develop general articles and reports as necessary, with minimal supervision, in the management of the Regional Breastfeeding Liaison Project's goals and objectives.


Works closely with the WIC Breastfeeding Education Coordinator and other members of the WIC Program team to:

  • Conduct outreach analysis and materials development with community partners.
  • Display a positive, professional and respectful demeanor at all times toward employees, peers, professional contacts, maintaining a professional appearance and positive image for the health centers.
  • Contribute to the team by promoting positive staff interaction, maintains open communication with other programs/departments.
  • Ensure that WIC staff and the community partners are informed of the Regional Breastfeeding Liaison's services and activities.
  • Function as a liaison between the UHC WIC and other Central Valley WIC Programs and community partners.
  • Work to develop connections with community partners in which UHC WIC and Central Valley WIC Programs reside and provide services, to include coordination of trainings, meetings, etc.



  • Completion of an internship accredited by Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND); and certified as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or certified within 18 months of employment, or a BA or BS in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Health Professional and/or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Lactation Educator (C.L.E.) preferred or certified within 18 months of employment.


  • Possess a valid Commission on Dietetic Registration card
  • Valid CA Driver's License required


  • Minimum 2 years of experience in outreach and/or public relations. Ideally, familiarity with healthcare industry, health issues, and/or community advocacy.


  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
