The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (PC) reports to the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BPC) Program Coordinator. The PC promotes the BPC Program; provides basic prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding counseling to WIC participants following state and agency protocols at the WIC Site or on the telephone during WIC site hours; contacts breastfeeding program participants at the frequency intervals prescribed by the WIC Policy and Procedure Manual (WPPM) Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program policy; maintains accurate records of counseling and contacts using the Peer Counseling Data Base and WIC MIS; initiates referrals to the IBCLC, BPC Program Coordinator or to other community resources as needed; maintains participant confidentiality; attends ongoing in-service trainings and meetings; issues breast pumps to BPC Program clients and follows-up with breast pump use; and assists with breastfeeding promotion activities at the WIC site or at community events. Also, performs other general BPC Program duties in support of the WIC Program objectives as needed.
